During the years between 1368 and 1644, the watchtowers were redesigned, the granite and brickwork enlarged, canoes were mounted, and sophisticated designs were added to the wall. The Great Wall of 10,000 Li, as it is known in China, protected the Ming Dynasty from being attacked by Turkic and Mongol tribes. The wall’s main purpose was not really to keep out the people, since they could easily scale the wall, but to make sure that they couldn’t cross the wall with their horses.
